Tea Ceremony

The TV Project «Tea Ceremony» is the television programs series devoted to philosophy, culture and art, on the channel R1 (TV and Radio Company «Region»). Authors and hosts of the programs series: historian of culture, Head of the Media Communications Department Lydia Starodubtseva and photographer Sergey Grinyov. Producer: Sergey Gulevsky. Director: Maria Zakutaeva. The slogan of the TV Project: «Every person is a philosopher». Therefore, the guests of the program are not only philosophers, but also writers, poets, musicians, artists with their own original philosophy of life. The hosts are contrastingly different from each other, but this is part of the conception. Each of the hosts fulfills his role: «the mistress of the tea ceremony, amazing Lydia» is supposedly quiet and calm «scholar» who thinks abstractly and speaks academic language, and «the nice interlocutor» Sergei Grinyov is a kind of energetic and expansive «simpleton» who simplifies any idea and turns it into a joke. The guest of the studio falls into the difficult situation of cross-examination, when he need to express his thoughts both intelligently for the «scholar», and understandably for the «simpleton», and this is certainly a test of the flexibility and plasticity of thinking. The main idea of the project is to reconstruct the warm atmosphere of the kitchen drinking tea: a cup of tea conversation flows easily and naturally, and in the studio – under the bright lights and surrounded by cameras – the mood of soothing philosophical discussions suddenly emerges: friendly, unhurried, and deep thinking about «the main things», attempts to express the inexpressible. During one years term of the program existing (once every week) the guests of the studio were writer Alexander Kabanov, poet Sergei Zhadan, art curator Tatiana Tumasyan, lecturers Igor Solomadin and Svetlana Rybalko, philosophers Alexander Mamaluy, Ivan Karpenko, Vladimir Shkoda, Michael Blumenkrantz, Michael Shilman, Alexander Filonenko, etc. From reviews, replies and comments on the Project: «The TV program creates a private, almost intimate format of conversations», «Your program back on TV a touch of sincerity, it is totally devoid of pressure and aggression, it is permeated with warmth and aims to search for the lost sense», «The audience is an illusion that we have long been familiar, and we are drinking tea together now, not in a hurry, because we have nowhere to hurry: what could be more enjoyable than intimate conversation with intelligent people? And everything else is vanity of vanities»,«The program hypnotizes and captivates us».
